Spring Awakening: Wines of the SouthEast

Natural wine tasting

As spring continues its eternal struggle to break through the Amsterdam grey, the sun is finally starting to win the battle. And we have the perfect reason to celebrate its arrival.

This Saturday, April 11th, we are preparing for Orthodox Easter (celebrated this Sunday the 12th on the old Julian calendar in Greece, Serbia, and across Eastern Orthodox Churches). To honor this shared heritage, we are hosting a very special, cross-cultural, multi-ethnic Spring Tasting at Craft Wine.

To add a little extra, the moon will be in Aquarius this weekend, making it a biodynamic Flower Day. This is the absolute perfect time in the lunar cycle to open aromatic wines, allowing their wild, floral notes to fully express themselves.

And what better way to do that than with this incredible line-up?

Maurer – Tamjanika 2022: A bone-dry, skin-contact Muscat from Fruška Gora. Expect an aromatic explosion of elderflower, rose petals, and citrus zest with a striking, mineral-driven finish.

Bikicki – Uncensored 2021: A beautifully textured, deep amber, Red Traminer. It delivers layered notes of dried orange peel, green tea, and warm oriental spices, backed by a unique “gunpowder” minerality.

Papras – Oreads 2024: Grown in the shadow of Mount Olympus! This is a wildly fresh, floral expression of the rare Black Muscat grape, bursting with wild rose petals, strawberry, and tart pomegranate.

Domaine Myrsini – Amos 2024: A high-tension, electric Assyrtiko from the island of Paros. Expect a bright burst of white blossoms, razor-sharp lemon zest, and a deeply saline, granitic finish that tastes like pure sea spray in your glass.

Domaine Myrsini – Nees Rizes 2023: Taste the salty sea breeze of the Cyclades. A rare blend of ungrafted island grapes Mantilaria & Vaftra, offering a savory depth of blackberries, violet, black olive, and rustic island herbs.

Since our Serbian Gibanica (cheese pie) and Ajvar (roasted pepper) was a massive hit at the tasting two weeks ago, this time we are bringing the Greek classics! We will be serving fresh Spanakopita (Greek Spinach & Feta Pie) and Cycladic Fava (Yellow Split Pea Purée), alongside a few traditional Serbian treats.

Whether you are celebrating Easter, the sunshine, a love for lunar-aligned natural wine, or maybe most importantly, breathing a sigh of relief that the American president changed his mind and decided not to destroy whole civilization this week, join us to raise a glass to spring!
