We are almost there.
The third Thursday of November.
Time to open the first bottles of wine from the 2024 harvest.
Beaujolais Nouveau!
As far back as the 1800s, Beaujolais growers and winemakers would gather to celebrate the end of the harvest by toasting the ‘vendange’ with some of the young wine produced that year.
Gradually gaining popularity, the early release wine spread from Beaujolais to all over France and later to the rest of Europe.
The fun and easy Beaujolais Nouveau is also a very good gauge of what we can expect from the current vintage in the rest of Beaujolais, as well as in neighbouring Mâconnais.
The 2024 harvest in Beaujolais was quite challenging. Due to unfavourable weather conditions, including excessive rainfall, frost, and hail, the region is projected to see a significant decrease in wine production, estimated to drop by 25% compared to the year before. However, despite these difficulties, the grapes that were harvested are showing promise for a quality vintage. The reduced yields lead to more concentrated flavours in the grapes, creating the potential for high-quality wines.
On Thursday, 21st November, we will start with Premier Jus 2024 by Nicolas Chemarin, a lush wine with juicy aromas of the grape, light raspberry and cranberry, candied fruits, and fig. It is a serious wine that reaches beyond the style’s expectations.
Also on the tasting table is Nicolas’s Chardonnay P’tit Grobis, a delightful Chardonnay from the Beaujolais-Villages. It has a light, fresh, and fruity profile, with flavors of apple, green pear, and a hint of spice with a lovely acidity.
On Saturday, 23rd November, we will add to the tasting lineup wines from Laura Lardy, a talented young lady, forth generation of wine making family with a home base in Fleurie. We will present her notable wines from Fleurie, Moulin-à-Vent, Chénas, and glorious Morgon Côte du Py.
