Maurer – Fodor 2022
Grašac*
Serbia, Subotica
Maurer’s Fodor 2022 is a striking expression of natural winemaking that beautifully captures the spirit of its single-vineyard origins in Subotica.
The wine pours a deep amber hue, hazy with the rustic charm of natural wine.
The nose bursts with vibrant citrus notes: lemon, mandarin, and orange peel lead the charge, complemented by hints of zest and marmalade. Layers of quince, fresh grape, and orchard fruits like apricot and nectarine deepen the aromatic complexity.
Exotic lychee and mango bring a tropical touch, balanced by earthy sage and warm spices of cinnamon and clove.
Fodor 2022 delivers a high intensity of flavour. Despite its bold aromatic profile and firm acidity, the wine maintains a silky, approachable texture due to its low tannin levels. The interplay of citrus and tropical fruits dances on the palate, while a persistent echo of orange Wilkin & Sons’ Tiptree marmalade lingers beautifully in the invigorating finish.
The grapes for Fodor 2022 were handpicked in mid-October, with an impressive 60-70% of the fruit naturally succumbing to botrytis reflecting the unique charm of the sandy soils in northern Serbia.
This exceptional wine springs from a vineyard that’s over half a century old, drawing from the profound depth and character of its mature vines.
The grapes underwent a 10-day skin contact. Following this, the wine was aged for 16 months in seasoned oak barrels, which allowed it to develop a nuanced and sophisticated profile. Staying true to its natural winemaking roots, Fodor 2022 was bottled without any filtration, fining, or the addition of sulphur, ensuring a pure and unadulterated expression of its terroir.
