Oszkar Maurer – Fodor 2019
Grašac AKA Welschriesling
Serbia, Subotica
Fodor is an attractive amber colored wine from 55-year-old untrained bush vines.
The nose combines a bright, floral and herbal character, tones of hibiscus and acacia blossom, a touch of apricot, with traces of linden honey as part of the harvest was affected by noble rot.
On the palate it delivers a crisp and refreshing sensation of ripe citrus fruit; fresh, rich, deep and well-structured. Dominated by ripe Reinette apple with a hint of dry ginger.
Merging power and freshness, brisk acidity and saline minerality, this is an amber wine with length, layers and depth.
The mineral-driven profile lingers effortlessly on the finish, leaving a long-lasting stamp of pure terroir expression.
Ageing in old 500-liter barrels for 14 months added an aromatic complexity, fine spiciness, smooth texture and aging potential.
As Darrel Joseph said, writing for Decanter and honoring this wine with 94 points,
“A work of art”.
