Ostertag Le Grand Bain 2019
The adventures of the masked lamb.
Alsace – FR
In this episode André Ostertag, Alsatian wine maker decided to vinify together Gewurztraminer (75%), Pinot Gris (20%) and a little bit of Riesling and red Silvaner.
After fermentation that lasted for 10 days the wine was aged for 9 months on the lees and later bottled without filtration.
The idea was simple, as he said, to make a dry gewurztraminer, full of energy and with provoking life threatening gluttony.
And he succeeded in a big way!
His creation is a hazy, dark orange elixir.
Aromatic and rich, powerful complex bouquet with an explosion of exotic fruits and flowers. Lychees, passionfruit, pineapple and roses, in a robe of fine asian spices.
The palate follows in a perfect balance and is entertained by a festival of exotic and delightful flavors of mango, grapefruit, ginger, mint, acacia with a long aftertaste and persistent but not overpowering acidity.
